HERE'S THE STORY
This is a scene outside of a tourists’ desert camp a few hours’ drive outside of Muscat. Of course camels are the historical “ships of the desert”. These lucky camels get to bask in the desert sun all day and only have to carry tourists for rides around the camp. As they graze, they usually stay few and far between since the desert isn’t exactly lush with plant life. This guy, though all strapped up, ready for a saddle, thought he’d take a break during the hottest part of the day. Emptiness is a Buddhist concept meaning that as opposed to being an isolated being, we are all connected in the universe. I made this pencil drawing for the Houston Zen Center, the Auspicious Cloud Temple. His serene meditation style I hope inspires all who enter the zendo.
