HERE'S THE STORY
Ali was an elderly man roaming around the souq (traditional market) of one of the interior cities of Oman. Retired, he now spends his days drinking coffee with friends, talking with visitors, and “keeping an eye on the girls – in case they need something.” I’m sure the women of Oman are feeling secure in the knowledge that Ali is watching out for them. He’s old enough to be their grandfather. But he has a big smile and the time of day for anyone who wants to stop for a chat – or a photograph as he posed in the hot sun for Saud Al Hunaini to snap his picture. Thanks Saud, for telling me Ali’s story and letting me draw that great face.
